Trade-In Policy

At Beautywood Books, we travel far and wide to bring you the best books, but our heart and soul lies in our bookshop being a community endeavor. A core part of our mission is being the caretakers and patrons of your books, whether that means the books you are looking for, or the books that once belonged to you. For those with a community spirit, book donations greatly support our sustainability as both a business and a community hub. But we understand that sometimes every dollar counts or that a little cashola can help make the tough decision to part with a beloved book easier . That’s why we offer cash or store credit for your books. We value consent here at Beautywood so here’s what you can expect if you decide you want to part with your beloved books:

What We Can’t Accept

  • Magazines, Encyclopedias, or Most Out-of-Date Textbooks: If you’re unsure, bring it in, but be aware we might have to turn them away.

  • Books in Poor Condition: Mildewed, falling apart, or books that smell too strongly of smoke, animal, or mustiness should be put out to pasture. They’ve served well, but it’s time to let them go.

  • Books with Bugs: That’s playing with fire. And for legal purposes, we’re joking when we say burn them. Just get rid of the beasties.

Understanding Book Value

While every book has value, resale value varies. Used bookstores used to sell books for half the cover price, but then Amazon happened. It changed the used book market by making every book accessible to everyone, everywhere. Books with too many copies in print or low demand became less valuable. At Beautywood, we sell every book for the lowest resale value online. When assessing books for trade-ins or purchase, online resale value is our biggest factor.

Our Trade-In Offers

  • Weigh and Pay: We offer 25 cents per pound cash and 50 cents per pound in store credit. For books not in high demand, this may be the best option.

  • Individual Assessment: Recommended for very new fiction (published in the past two years), obscure nonfiction, and anything by Sarah J. Maas. Textbooks are purchased only by individual assessment. We check online resale value and offer 20% of that number. This helps cover fees, shipping costs, and our labor, keeping us in business while giving each book a good home.

Thank you for trusting us with your books, and we promise to always give the best possible life to each book that comes through our door.
